The Day We Met the President

Michael D Higgins and YMTfm
At Feilte 2018 with President Higgins

The biggest event of 2018 has to be meeting President Michael D. Higgins and his wife Sabina in the lobby of Mary Immaculate College during Feilte 2018. It was truly a group event that involved two main interviewers, three of the team taking photos, and two others with a back-up recorder for the special occasion.

We made a short clip that captured the moment from start to finish and hope you enjoy listening to it.

Recorded by Loran and Roisin, and Amy from the Youth Media Team.

Interview with Uachtarán na hÉireann, President Michael D. Higgins

The Youth Media Team had the honour of interviewing our President Michael D. Higgins at #Feilte.

We started our interview with a few words as Gaeilge and asked him what we as young people can do to be proud of our native language particularly with this year being Bliain na Gaeilge.

We also asked the President, after his many years of experience in the political sphere, if he has any advice for us young people and how we can use our voice and find our voice in the world of politics here in Ireland and abroad.

Finally we asked President Michael D. Higgins to tell us about his most important educational influence on his life so far.

As a team it was both a pleasure and an honour to meet our President. Interviewing Mr. Higgins was a great experience, one which we will treasure for the rest of our lives.

Thank you to President Higgins for taking the time to speak with us!

They kindly gave of their time to answer a few YMT questions and told us about their lives as professional rugby players and in keeping with the spirit of FÉILTE, about some teachers who inspired them.
