Keith Quille is a lecturer at IT Tallaght ( TU-D). He has been training teachers who are interested in teaching the new leaving cert computer science course. Keith told us how popular current computer science camps are with both students and teachers. He also gave us good news on the gender bias front in that the number of girls signing up for these camps is equal to or greater than boys.

He then went on to tell us why he decided to share his ideas about teaching through the means of his Twitter account.  Finally he shared why it’s so important to teach through technology at a young age to prepare them for future technologies.

Mags and Cara interviewed Pam O’Brien at ICTEDU. As the organiser of the event she told us about the event and why it’s important to bring first, second and third level education together at events. She discussed her roles as a Lecturer, Mentor and Organiser. Youth Media Team and the Green Screen Experience

There are many primary schools in Ireland with freshly installed green screens and several of them cite Cormac Cahill and the Maker Meet team at the annual ICT in Education Conference as inspiration for their successful use of green screens. During the 2019 “Ideas in Education” Conference, young Dylan uses a green screen when asking educators when they get their best ideas.

Dylan hopes teachers stop by the green screen standing at the end of Rang Bianca during the Ideas in Education Conference today.

Interview with Stephen Howell

Amy and Lorcan interviewed Stephen Howell. Stephen Howell is the current Academic Engagement Manager for Microsoft Ireland. He describes himself as having a passion for teaching kids to code. Stephen did the closing Keynote for today’s event.  He talked to us about the Dream Space in the new Microsoft building. We asked him about the developments in Technology that excite him the most and told us about the highlight of the event so far.
