Lorcan met with Philip Bromwell of RTE on day 2 of MoJoCon. Philip is very well known in the world of MoJoCon so he told us about how he became involved in mobile journalism. He also gave us an insight into his most challenging and most enjoyable stories. Lorcan also asked him to look into the future and predict where journalism would go.

Christine Costelloe is a Digital Youth Council alumni and an aspiring journalist. Lorcan interviewed her to get an insight into how and why she came to be at MoJoCon. Christine has already published a number of articles as she is a freelance music journalist. Christine was delighted with what she learned at MoJoCon and is planning to study journalism and new media after her Leaving Certificate.

Lorcan spoke to Karina Buckley at the end of Day Two of MoJoCon. She was the MC for the MoJoCon event. He asked her about her career to date, how she got involved in MoJoCon and also about the work she does to raise awareness of climate change as she was previously a weather forecast presenter with RTE.She also gave some sound advice for budding journalists.

Matt Cooke from Google News Lab gave Lorcan an interview on Day Two of MoJoCon. Matt is very much involved in looking at how technology can support the work of the journalist- in particular focusing on the Google Applications and Tools that can help to verify stories and make them more interesting. Glen Mulcahy is the founder of MoJoCon and Lorcan was delighted to get an interview with his as everyone kept referring to him as the ‘father of MoJoCon in Ireland’ He spoke to us about how he got involved in MoJoCon and what his MoJoCon takeawys are.

Bill Carter is a journalist, film-maker and teacher. He was at MojoCon to speak on the documentary panel. He spoke to Lorcan about his film Miss Sarajevo and explained how technology helps his work. For Bill it is all about the story.

Lorcan decided to brave it for the next interview at MoJoCon and interviewed Róisín Ní Thomain through Irish. Róisín is a MoJo working through Irish and English and has worked with BT Young Scientist and is the presenter of the upcoming four-part series Sisters of Science.

Anne Marie Tomchak is one of Lorcan’s journalism heroes as she is the UK editor of Mashable. He asked her how and why she got involved in journalism and how mobile technology has changed the work of the journalist. She talked to us about her documentary for Science Week 2016 ‘Cloud Control’ which was about our digital footprint and how we share our personal data. As one of Silicon Republic’s Sci/Tech Top 100 it was also interesting to hear how she felt science and technology would impact on society over the next five years.

Lorcan was really delighted to get an interview with Mark Little as he has really shown what you can do with journalism and social media. He asked him about how journalism has changed since he began his career and why he chose to leave RTÉ to set up his own company. It was interesting to hear the process of verifying news stories and how social media is changing how journalists work. Mark was part of a great session at MoJoCon Fringe about being a mobile media entrepreneur.

Lorcan’s first interview at MoJoCon was with fellow Tipperary man Cian McCormack who is a journalist in RTÉ. Before the interview even started Cian gave him some great tips for audio interviews and really helped himto get the most from MoJoCon. We discussed how he came to be a journalist and the advantages of mobile journalism. We talked about both his difficult stories and the most rewarding stories he had done in his career. Lorcan also asked him about his favourite piece of work. During the interview he gave us a great insight into one of his latest ‘packages’- the story of twin boys in Wicklow with twin lambs raising money for charity. Cian felt that there will always be a place for journalism in our world but having a good story is key.
